Day 1 of 35 – Having a Good Attitude

A long time ago, I was given a book called Keeping-Up-Your-Spirits Therapy. It’s a book with 35 steps to help you keep up your spirits when things seem tough. Really, though, it’s 35 things we should always use anyway. So I decided that, for the next 35 days, I am going to post one step each day. I may miss a day here or there if life gets too busy, but the goal is to write about one a day for the next 35 days. It’s part of my Lenten promises.

So, here we are at Day 1. Step number one is:

Having a good attitude – It’s healthier than a plate full of carrots

This is a very important and sometimes difficult thing. Having a good attitude about things can make them easier, but it’s so hard to do when other things work against us. These things can beat us down and make us doubt in our abilities or make us lose faith that negative things can change. I know from experience how hard it is to be positive all the time. Sometimes things just seem so bleak. We must remember, though, that the night is darkest just before the dawn (yes, that came from The Dark Knight and, no, that is not technically true in nature, but it does work for people’s troubles. Oh, and that actually originated from Sojourner Truth). In other words, when things seem as if they can never get better, they do. Keep up a good attitude so that you don’t make the difficult events in life even more difficult. That may sound overly optimistic, but, really, that’s what this is all about. And the truth is we can all use a little more optimism and positivity in our lives.

Until tomorrow.
